Donald Trump is not being invited to the climate change summit in France this December. This decision comes after the United States pulled out the Paris Climate Agreement, due to it being "unfair", as Donald Trump has stated. The United States is the only country that has pulled out of the agreement, as both Syria and Nicaragua have come to terms with the agreement and the regulations.
What does it mean when the leader of a nation that is supposed to be a global hegemon is not invited to an event that all of the biggest countries in the world will be attending? One person, one president is ruining the relationships that we have with other countries for reasons that seem arduous and inefficient to many Americans, myself included.
We cannot pull out of the agreement until November 4th, 2020 and at that time, Donald Trump may be replaced as president, and all of this trouble may have been for nothing.
Global peace and prosperity comes with a cost, and it's clearly not a cost that Donald Trump is willing to expend because he continuously keeps the United States closed off and is breaking relationships with world leaders that have been vital to the United States before.
Only time will tell how the rest of this event plays out, if the United States will eventually be added back in the conversation of climate change, and if relationships can be built and flourished in the upcoming months.
