As we talked about in class, France was infuriated by the US submarine deal with Australia. Biden has made a huge step towards mending that divide with Macron by admitting to him that France should have been consulted on the sale of Nuclear sub tech to Australia. The agreement includes the French ambassador coming back to Washington and Joe Biden meeting with macron in Europe next month. This is a big step in keeping that relationship strong especially since it involves military power and a third country. Both leaders agreed that consultation on such matters is necessary to avoid these situations in the future.
