Bagram airfield up until a couple of weeks ago has been a symbol of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan. For 20 years the U.S. held control of the airfield and now that it is up for grabs China has its eye on it. China put out a statement saying that they have no intention of taking over Bagram however they have sent teams to canvas the area and have a history of lying about their military deployments. China does not want to take over the airfield as much as they would like to make friends with the Taliban and send workers, soldiers, and supplies to Afghanistan.
I think this is such a smart move on China’s part, they are our biggest threat, and they are taking over a base that after 20 years we could not maintain control of. It is a show of power and force and should scare the American government as China is doing something they could not.
