With Nigeria leading on the third spot among countries with the highest rate of terrorism, a miracle happened earlier this week. Over the past years, Boko Haram has brought tremendous catastrophic damages to Nigeria. A few days ago thousands of Boko Haram terrorists have surrendered and are interestingly being supported by the Nigerian government in a city that they terrorized multiple times. And the reason for this sudden surrender was the death of their leader Abubakar Shekau who blew himself up while he was about to get captured. I find this interesting since the government sees them as refugees, not criminals, and the amount of trust from the government upon them--Boko Haram did way more harm than good. Perhaps one would argue that most of the terrorists were brainwashed or abducted at a young age but that doesn’t excuse the human rights violations committed.
