A two-months ceasefire in Yemen’s civil war

In Yemen's civil war, which has been continuing since 2015, the Saudi-led military alliance and the Iran-aligned Houthi group agreed to a two-month ceasefire on April 1st. It is the first time hostilities have ceased simultaneously throughout Yemen since the peace talks in 2004. This is an important step toward ending the protracted conflict because the Yemeni civil war has killed tens of thousands of people and pushed millions to the brink of starvation. The UN special envoy for Yemen, explained that the ceasefire can be extended after the two-month period if the parties agree.
