Death-Penalty Trial for Parkland Shooter Set to Begin
With the Parkland shooting anniversary coming up on four years, the death penalty trial for the shooter is set to take place. The jury selection for a trial is set to begin Monday. This is a rare instance in which a mass shooter will be facing the capital punishment. The shooter, Nikolas Cruz, pleaded guilty to the murder of 17 and attempted murder of 17 others. Under Florida law, the shooter now faces a separate jury trial to determine his fate. His fate will be the death penalty of life in prison without the chance of parole. The prosecution will focus on his actions the day of the shooting. They will be trying to prove that his actions were so inhumane and crazy that his death by the state is warranted. As someone who is a supporter of the death penalty, I would fully expect that Cruz will be put to death. I would have high hopes for this too be the case, as Florida has become more and more red over the years. Although Florida has become more, red over the years, the trial will take place in a Broward County court room, a county that has been blue for a very long time. With jury selections set to begin tomorrow, it will only be a matter of time before we have a verdict on his fake. I hope the jury will convict on the death penalty. Justice is deserved in this case.
