Biden to 'Renew' Ties With Serbia

By Mei Kin Chew

US Vice President Joe Biden was scheduled to visit Serbia on May 20, 2009 in order to 'build a new, healthy relationship'. Biden said that U.S. will not foresee that Serbia will acknowledge the Kosovan Independence anytime soon, but predicts that the Serbian government will cooperate and work hand in hand with the EU's work there.

On the other hand, Biden urged MPs in the multi-ethnic federal parliament to take advantage of their privilege to integrate their country into EU. Bosnia accordingly will remain among the poorest country in the region if prompt actions are not taken. EU, however, insists that the Bosnian central institutions need to be strengthened before she could be considered as a member of EU.
