Ethiopia troops 'back in Somalia'

Posted by Alli Lewis

Reports have been springing up from Somalia residents that Ethiopian troops have again crossed their borders. Troops had originally entered Somalia in 2006 to help remove the Islamist forces from the capital Mogadishu, but withdrew under a UN-backed peace deal after spending two years there. However, even though they had pulled out, Ethiopia said they still reserved the right to "intervene" in Somalia if it's "interests were directly threatened." Their re-entrance into Somalia may be linked to the al-Shabab group's action of taking the key town, Jowhar, from government forces. Whatever the reason, the Ethiopian government spokesman said that no troops have entered and that the reports are completely fabricated.
