Continuing the debate from last week, whenever there's a budget shortage at a hospital, the first programs to go are the ones that treat the poor and this is another example. UChicago is in mostly poor areas on the south side and their clinics treat many of the poor neighborhood residents, many of whom have no or limited insurance. They've been under fire for years for cutting services to the neighborhood, but they respond that they run a business, the clinics are money losers, there will be others available. Available for how long?
