Australia halts cattle exports to Egypt
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-22412782
Australia has stopped cattle exports to Egypt due to animal cruelty issues within Egyptian slaughterhouses. This is not the first time that they have stopped exports to Egypt They stopped exports for 4 years and just start them again in 2010. Indonesia is also a cruelty culprit. An Australian animal rights group was investigating Egyptian slaughterhouses and found them to be terribly cruel. They caught video footage of a cow that fell off the processing line and was chased around the slaughterhouse before having its legs cut off and being stabbed to death. Australia sends 1 billion dollars worth of cattle exports abroad every year (about 700,000 cattle) and there is pressure by Australian animal rights groups to stop cattle exports.
