Professional Criminals Finally Brought to Justice

More than 30 people were arrested and some $50 million in diamonds was confiscated following a huge diamond robbery which took place in Brussels last February.  Raids had taken place in France, Belgium and Switzerland, all by the same group of people, and there was so much precision in their plan that they struck only 18 minutes before the diamonds were to be shipped to Zurich.  A third of the stolen diamonds were seized in Geneva, along with $110,000 and several luxury cars.  Suspects were arrested everywhere, from Brussels to Switzerland and the suspects were a diverse group of people, businessmen, lawyers and others.  There is suspicion that the plan was so good that the robbers must have had inside help but no inquiries have been made.  This however was not the worst diamond theft in the diamond capital ever; the record was in 2003 where $100 million worth of diamonds were stolen.  In the end, the 2003 robbery was only solved because one of the robbers left a half-eaten salami sandwich in the vault.  While these robberies are rare, it is worth it to wonder if the Hollywood make believe about bank robberies is really make believe or not.
