Madagascar Croaks

by Bri Roozen

So this may not be up in the headlines along with Swine Flu and the Taliban, but it is important to the 200 new species of frogs recently discovered on the island of Madagascar.  For what it's worth, I really like frogs, and I'm concerned for these little guys.  In fact, we should all be concerned for them because of the amount of political strife and deforestation occurring currently in Madagascar.  With all the turbulence and unrest, the international environmental community is unable to go in and protect these animals from the follies of man.

One also has to assume, that with the discovery of over 200 new species of frogs, then there's probably other animals yet to been recorded on the island as well.  Plants as well, perfectly lined up to be destroyed by our wood-grubbing fingers.  Who knows if deep in the parts of the jungle we haven't already destroyed lies the cure for cancer?
