While some fear of swine flu seems to be dwindling as discussion of opening currently quarantined schools begins, others rise as the first case of the H1N1 virus passed from human to animal arose in Alberta, Canada. While 220 pigs were infected from a single worker carrying the virus, officials still maintain that pork is safe to ingest and that citizens should not worry. While Canada has infected pigs but stresses safety, reactions to the flu strongly differ across the globe. Egypt ordered the slaughter of the pig population throughout the country as a preventive measure against the flu.
