China, Taiwan, and the United States

Numerous analysts/policy makers believe that China will invade Taiwan before 2024. This would cause a really difficult dilemma for the United States on whether they should support China or Taiwan. There is a military act that binds the United States in helping to defend Taiwan under any force or coercion. Also, because Taiwan is a democracy in Asia, there is a strong ideological pull for the US to defend Taiwan.

However, there goal of the United States, in relation to China and Taiwan should be to keep "peace and stability," not to rush to the conclusion of whether or not Taiwan is it's own country. This means that the current goal of the US should be to stall any conflict from happening.  The biggest point of importance is that the US needs to not back China into a corner. (Foreign Affairs)
