How India's New Bridge to Kashimir Divided a Region

A new link bridge in India is nearing completion that will connect the relatively isolated Kashmir and Jammu region to the rest of the country in a streamline way. However,  when the British relinquished control of India in 1947,  it was divided along religious lines, and the region has been under a land dispute between India and Pakistan that the United Nations has acknowledged. The inhabitants of of Kashmir, which is majority Muslim, fear that as this link bridge allows for easier access to the Indian military to the region, the true motives of the bridge being built have to do with exerting more control on Kashmir and possibly attempting to change its demographics to be majority Hindu. This fear is fueled by the India  government's move to take away Kashmir and Jammu's autonomous status in 2019.
