Protests in Turkey are continuing following the burning of the Quaran by Rasmus Paladun, a Swedish activist. Just like most other religions, the burning of the Islamic Holy Book has caused wide spread discussion and protest. Rasmus chose an absolutely awful time to demonstrate his beliefs in such radical fashion. Sweden is one of the nations currently pending entry to NATO after Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Turkey, as a member of NATO, is carefully considering their next moves. Some Swedish are protesting in return, hanging an effigy of the Turkish president while surrounded by police. Turks claim the Swedish are showing "state sponsored Islamphobia" and I'm inclined to agree. Free speech only goes so far before it can become problematic. If Sweden is not admitted into NATO and a war occurs, Rasmus could be potentially viewed as the catalyst.
