The leaders of the two countries sat down and had lunch together in Istanbul on Sunday in a Tate meeting between neighboring countries, who have been at odds over maritime and energy issues, the status of Aegean islands and migration. “With the goal of starting a new page in bilateral relations,” Erdogan told Mitotakis he believes the two countries can make headway on issues like Aegean, minorities, combating terrorism and migration. He added the neighbors should speak regularly, rather than only at times of crisis.
