Climate Protests in Germany

 https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/14/europe/lutzerath-germany-coal-protests-climate-intl

The small town of Lützerath, Germany is the planned site of a new coal mine in Western Germany. In 2017 people were evicted from their homes to make way for the new planned coal mine. Over one thousand police officers in riot gear showed up after protesters showed up to stop the destruction of the town to build a coal mine. Many climate activists showed up at the site with thousands more expected to show up. Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained at the town and recently was released. The town sits on the edge of an already existing coal mine, making it a controversial point for many climate activists. In October of 2022 the German government had made a deal with RWE, which saved some villages, but called for the destruction of Lützerath. Posted by Michael Gill.
