Barack Obama, The Great European Hope

By Grant Swanson

Barack Obama is more than just a national figure to European Countries…he is a beacon of hope. After the past 8 years, America and Europe have escalated tension toward one another unlike ever before. Europeans go so far to slander American elections. Europeans believe that American elections prove how ‘childish’ America really is. Not this time. Barack Obama inspires hope for Europeans. European media is covering this election like no other American election before. Even the most conservative parties of France have gone so far as to endorse the Democrat’s candidate. Europe believes that if America elects Obama, they will be ushering an era of change and global advancement/unity. The admiration of Obama has reached such proportions that his face appears on bags and other clothing items all across Europe. Singers have even mixed his speeches to make music that is widely listened to. So much hype! But the question is: should Europe matter. I think it should not be a deciding factor in how someone votes…but for a person who is teetering on the edge of who to vote for…this very well could and should be a deciding factor. America and Europe need to work together in this world if we hope to collaborate and bring together the world.
