More countries make spreading HIV a crime

Thomas Andre: More countries are beginning to prosecute people for the spread of HIV. Right now, there are 58 countries that criminalize the spread of it, while 33 others are considering legislation. As the article mentions, and i would have to agree, that if these laws are misapplied, it could lead to forced checks for this deadly disease. This could then lead to people not telling medical authorities about their condition and many more cases go untreated and it could spread even faster. These laws are not relegated to a certain part of the world. They are all over. The US itself has 32 states that prosecute people for the transmission of HIV. I only agree with this type of law if it goes after people who deliberately spread this in order to cause harm to others. But then again, this would also cover the malicious spread other incurable diseases as well. This is a very touchy matter with no clear resolution.
