On Tuesday, the rebels of the FARC (The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) announced that they agree with a group of leftists politicians, journalists and public personalities to start sending each others letters, so as to build a new channel of communication among them and achieve a peaceful liberation of lots of hostages that they have had for years. It is said, by the government of Colombia, that the FARC has almost 700 hostages, between civilians and soldiers. Hopefully, in July of this year there were 15 liberations without any shot being fired, in which Ingrid Bentacourt was one of the hostages.
Will this attempt be effective to enhance communication or will the FARC continue to work and try to be heard using hostages? Do they want that? In the letter they said this: “The eternal war against the people that they want to impose to perpetuate injustice cannot be the destiny of the country."
