Former Taiwan President Behind Bars

In his second term, he and his family were investigated for embezzling millions of dollars. Mr. Chen alleges that his successor and the nationalist party have made this a politically motivated attack and that his prosecutors want to win favor from Beijing. During his time in office, he was known to strongly support being independent from the mainland of China, while Mr. Ma, a presidential candidate, is pushing closer ties with the mainland.
