Bolivian officials have presented the United States a formal extradition request for former President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada, who ordered a militar repression against protests in 2003 and over 60 people died as a consequence of this military action. Sanchez de Lozada is living since then in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Consuelo Ponce has said that the 2,700-page request charging the exiled leader with "genocide" was delivered Monday.
U.S. government offices, closed Tuesday for Veterans Day, so they could not immediately confirm they had received the document.
