Though no new government has been recognized by the international community, Madagascar's president, Marc Ravalomanana was thrown out of office in March, and he has fled to Swaziland. From there, he appointed Manandafy Rakotonirina as his new prime minister earlier this week. Days later Mr. Rakotonirina was arrested by soldiers in a hotel raid in the capital. He was charged with declaring himself prime minister, inciting violent protests, and possession of firearms. Ravalomanana was also charged with inciting violence, but he has been warned that his return could result in violence against innocent people.
