General Petraeus said that there will be a review of American use of air strikes in Afghanistan. The head of U.S. Central Command’s comments came after the Afghan president said that civilian casualties from air strikes were damaging the fight against terrorism. Washington continues to express regret for civilian losses but has not agreed to rule out similar strikes in the future. Gen. Petraeus has called for a brigadier general to go to Afghanistan and look at the issues in order to ensure that “our tactical actions don’t undermine our strategic goals and objectives”. The Afghan president said that it is “something that the Afghan people want to be addressed effectively and sooner”. There were protests in Kabul, Afghanistan, over the most recent deaths and President Karzai urged the U.S. to stop using such strikes. However, General James Jones said that the armed forces cannot hamper the ground forces by banning air strikes saying, “We can’t fight with one hand tied behind our back”.
