Afghan Government Cracks Down on TV Ads Calling for Troop Extension

The relationship between Washington and Karzai has not improved when ads urging Karzai to sign Bilateral Security Agreement were aired in Afghanistan. Now the ads have been taken off the air and the government is launching an investigation to determine where the funding for these ads came from. Many of the Afghan people are calling for Karzai to sign the agreement without any the conditions that he wants. They doubt that the Afghan army will be able to fend off Taliban insurgents without aid from the U.S. military. There has also been backlash from the media watchdog of Afghanistan. They view this as a direct violation of free speech and hurting the media industry's attempts at growth.
