US lawmakers raise safety concerns about Olympics

Members of congress have been expressing their concerns and worries for the safety of Americans at the 2014 Olympic games set to be held in Sochi in Russia. They are calling for Russia and Moscow to cooperate more on security. Last month's suicide bombings in Volgograd which is only about 400 miles from Sochi have shown how real the threat of danger and possible attacks are for the upcoming event. Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised that Russia is doing all that they can to ensure a safe olympics and FBI Director James Comey said that the Russian Government understands the threat, and that they are devoting all their resources to address it. Some members of congress on the other hand argue that the Russians aren't giving us the whole story about the threats. They want answers to questions such as who do we need to worry about, are the groups terrorist groups, and since they have already had some successful attacks recently, are they still plotting? Security measures will be ongoing until the Olympics set to be held February 7-23 but for now the State Department has advised Americans who plan to attend the Olympics that they should keep vigilant about security because of potential terrorist threats, crime and uncertain medical care.
