Mexico's Drug Problems

From Kurpalo
Mexico is clearly fighting a drug war but what is more interesting is that there is no "druglord" or "trafficker" stereotype. In fact, all the people taking part in all the illegal activities including selling drugs, can be senior citizens, people in the government, farmers, or children. Felipe Calderon, the president, is convinced that in order for Mexico to rid itself of all drug problems it is necessary to get the people inside the house first.. government workers, especially. Prison wardens and guards have also been involved with drug trafficking, making prison cells more dangerous and instead of putting the traffickers in prison to stop them from dealing, selling & creating, they continue to do that anyway and still profit from it. President Calderon explains that the people of Mexico must put their country and its laws before all else and resist the temptations of money and luxury.

The U.S. has put $465 million toward stopping drug trafficking from Mexico into the United States. Close to 4,000 people this year alone have lost their lives to violence due to drugs.
The statistics in both articles are mind blowing and it is interesting how Felipe Calderon is the first president who has decided to step up to the plate and attempt to stop this.
