Clinton wars of Iranian, Chinese gains in Latin America
Rachel Polster
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday that Iran and China are making "quite disturbing" gains in Central and South America. She also commented that the Obama administration is trying to work to improve relations with the leaders in the Western Hemisphere which includes Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez as well as the Castro brothers in Cuba. Past efforts by the Bush administration to isolate certain Latin American countries has failed and now the United States needs to try and counter efforts by China, Iran, and Russia to gain influence in the region. Clinton remarked that "They are building very strong economic and political connections with a lot of these leadesr. I don't think that is in our interests". Because of the competition for attention and relationships with countries with natural resources, it would be very foolish to not try and improve the relationships with countries in our own hemisphere.
