Obama Makes a Trip to a Homeland of Family Roots

By: Erica McCauley

After making a trip to Russia to talk with his fellow international leaders, Barack Obama is making an overnight stop in Accra, Ghana this summer. This trip to Ghana will be monumental to the African people of Ghana. Since he has become the first African-American president, he would like to make a trip to where his father grew up. As a senator, Obama went to Kenya to visit his father's roots; however, this trip is to be a short overnight trip. He wants to deter from exploiting his family roots. In his travels to Ghana, Obama hopes to offer some peace to the strife over democracy in Africa. Since the last time Obama visited Africa, he left more strife over democracy in Kenya than he had intended. Obama would like to rub off the good energy of democracy on the Sub-Saharan people. He intends to help stabilize the U.S.'s close partners.
