Chinese regulators suspend TV crime and spy dramas

As the Chinese Communist Party prepares to celebrate its 90th anniversary, the government has decided to pull all television programs depicting detective work, spy thrillers, or time travel. Instead, the airspace will be filled with patriotic, party praising programming. Even Wang Weiping, the deputy chief of the drama department at China's state TV regulator is openly admitting the strategy of a "propaganda period."

The programs will still be dramatic, but will focus on the founding of the party. Networks are upset about the short notice change, but Chinese officials insist changes like this are normal and not to be questioned. Chinese T.V. watchers can look forward to Dong Fang, a historical drama about the founding of the People's Republic of China.
