Violence in Egypt

A riot in Cairo, Egypt has erupted this weekend. During this outrage, at least twelve people were killed and over two-hundred were left with mild to severe injuries. The increasing tension in between the Muslim and Christian population finally caused a secretarial explosion. The riot immediately called for an emergency assembly of the Cabinet and public persuasion from Coptic Christians for international protection. Officials stated that the initial dilemma began when rumors that a Christian woman, who had converted to Islam, was being held at a local church against her will. International protection against the Christian community of Cairo was demanded by a small group Coptic Christians outside of the U.S. Embassy earlier today. This unfortunately, was not the first time that this has happened this year. A Coptic church was bombed in Alexandria, Egypt on New Years Day, killing twenty three. Until today, that had been the deadliest attack on Christians that Egypt had known in recent times.
