In Pakistan, an embarrassed silence on killing of bin Laden

Pakistan faces embarrassment after the United States forces killed bin Laden on Monday. There are questions regarding the Pakistan government's ability to catch bin Laden themselves or if they had known where he was hiding all along. The leader of al- Quida was killed in a mansion near a Pakistan military base which further fuels the idea that Pakistan is playing a double-game over Islamist militants and al-Qaida. Analysts are finding it hard to believe that Pakistan officials had not known of bin Laden's close existence to the base. Pakistan's first official statement about the killing said that the death is a win not only to Pakistan but for the world's war on terrorism. It is still unclear whether Pakistan officials knew of the raid. It is said that Pakistan officials may have known but kept quiet in order to keep with the deal that U.S. forces will be withdrawing from Afghanistan in July. Read more
