China, Japan and South Korea Pledge to Expand Trade at Joint Meeting. New York Times. By CHOE SANG-HUN, NOV. 1, 2015

The meeting between China, South Korea, and Japan suggests that these countries have set aside Japan’s controversial acts against Asian women in the World War II when Asian women were used as sexual slaves to the Japanese soldiers. The expectation of a free trade agreement between these countries will reinforce peace in the Pacific Rim. A partnership between these countries will benefit world peace because these countries can monitor the threat of nuclear weapon use by North Korea. Although free trade can bring needed stability and societal benefits, I genuinely believe that Japan owes an apology to these Asian women that were mistreated during World War II. The agreement should include programs that benefit women who were victims of sexual slavery. I believe it is time to move forward with policies that have a positive impact on society and world peace.
