Iranian leader: 'Death to America' refers to policies, not the nation

Iranian Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is taking the stance that the death to America chants are logical. He gave a speech on Tuesday to University students in which they responded with death to America chants. We should not be surprised that individuals in Iran are chanting death to America. This should be something that Americans are used to. The article mentions how that this comes at an interesting time, because Iran and America just agreed to a deal to life international sanctions. I agree with the author here. If you just worked on a deal with a country, it would see that chanting their death would not be in your best interests. This is just another example of why Iran and America will never get on the same page, and get along. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is saying that the slogan death to America has different meaning that it once did. He is saying that the slogan death to America is not meant to the death of America as a nation, but to the death of American politics, and their arrogance. I'm just not buying this at all. He should stop pretending that he just wants the American politics dead, but not America as a nation dead. I believe he does want the whole nation of America to be dead. It would mean more power to Iran if that happened. In my opinion, he looks foolish trying to re frame the slogan death to America. Iranian students and radicals took over an American embassy in Tehran in 1979, and held American workers hostage for more than a year. His comments about the slogan being re framed come close to the 36 year anniversary of this event. I believe he knows that the anniversary is coming up, and just wants to reinforce the countries pride with these comments. The next part of the article is one that I found most interesting. Demonstrators in Tehran marked the anniversary of the American embassy take over by burning United States flags and declaring America as Satan. I'm all for having great pride in one's country, but I am not sure Iran wants to aggravate America even more. Calling America the Great Satan does not seem to be in their best interests. The United States embassy was even known as the Den of Espionage. Iran's president Hussan Rouhani mentions that the embassy takeover was Iran's second revolution. I'm not sure I agree with this statement. I think Iran needs a lot more help if they want to have some type of global influence. I think the Iranian president needs to try and do a better job to build a more beneficial relationship with the United States. Also, I found it interesting how November 4 in Iran is referred to as the national day against global arrogance. This article is a perfect example of how some states may just never get along.
