Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the downing of the Russian Airliner which crashed in Egypt with 224 people on board, although recent reports have stated that although there was no indication that the plane had been blown up, the cause of the crash has not been determined, although a statement from the Russian embassy in Cairo stated that the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing. Due to Russia's recent bombing campaign against Syria it is not surprising that Islamic State would claim responsibility for any Russian disaster. Alternatively, it is also possible that due to Russia's bombing campaign still being in its early days it is crucial that it is shown to be a success and this recent plane crash could potentially be a major blow the popularity of Putin's campaign against the Islamic State.
