Kengo Kuma and Associates are abandoning concrete in favor of natural materials. The new olympic stadium will avoid concrete in favor of more natural materials such as wood. The building is thinking of the future, the next generation. Modern technology has solved issues of flexibility, maitenance and flammability in natural materials according to CNN. Specifically Kuma wants to embrace stone, wood and rice paper. The article does not make any references to the recent paris agreement on climate change, though the timing of the direction of the Olympics is significant in that it shows that countries already beginning on the race towards sustainability. The article left out information such as the green impact of such a stadium compared to one built with concrete, but time will tell.
