This weekend on Saturday the foreign minister of Iran acknowledged for the first time that his country has supplied Russia with drones. He also stated that the transfer came before Moscow's war on Ukraine in which the drones were used. This statement is months late, and many are still suspicious of the actual timeline.
Iranian officials had previously denied arming Russia. Iran's
Ambassador to the U.N. Amir Saeid Iravani spoke on this and said that the
assumptions of Iran arming Russia during the current conflict with Ukraine were
“totally unfounded", also declaring that Iran is neutral in the war.
On Saturday, Amirabdollahian claimed that Iran was “oblivious”
to the use of its drones in Ukraine and that Iran is committed to wanting the
war to be ended. Amirabdollahian also stated that if Ukraine can provide proof
that Russia used drones from Iran in attacks, Iran’s stance in the war
would not be indifferent anymore, implying that they would change from neutral
to siding with Ukraine.
