Congo cease-fire

From: Becca Smith
An article on CNN.com was reported that the current cease fire happening in the Congo is allowing people to starve (see picture where children are the only ones being fed--and the only thing that they are receiving is biscuits). The United Nations and other relief agencies delivered food to over 10,000 people who were about to eat their first meal in days. Many of these people hadn't eat a meal in days since they had fled, which was Monday or Tuesday. The relief did not come until Saturday. A women was quoted as saying "We can't go back home because we fear those who forced us to flee. They're killing us, and they're raping the women."

Both sides made peace agreements in 2007 that they need to revisit. The Congolese government needs to take care of the Hutu extremes and the Tutsi government needs to stop supporting the Congolese rebels in Rwanda. The United Nations is trying to make peace with both sides, however, they are not ready to put troops in Congo, because they "want to be sure the 17,000 U.N. troops in the country are deployed most effectively."
