From Lexi Chase
Saudi Arabia, as recently as this past Sunday, foiled a deadly plan set up by Saudi militants in which they would hijack a plane and blow it up over a major US city. The specific city was not named, but thank God it was interrupted in time, because the hijacking was arranged to be executed shortly after the Saudi government caught wind of it. The plan, which was supposedly formulated in 2003, was for the hijackers to board a plane which would be flying through the US to another destination. Why? So that the Saudis could board the plane without having to obtain a US visa, which incidentally is very hard for Saudis to get. Then, midflight, they would blow up the plane above a densely-populated US city. The article also gives a reminder that 15 of the 19 hijackers from the 9-11 attacks were Saudis. That is some scary stuff.
Ever since the Saudi militants began a campagne of violence within the Saudi kingdom in 2003, the government has made it a priority to foil as many attacks (both locally and internationally) as possible. Thus far, they have squelched approximately 160 attacks, the attempted US hijack being just one of them... within the past MONTH. Within this past month, 991 Saudi militants have been arrested for allegedly being involved in the 30-some local attacks, which have killed 164 people and wounded hundreds. Other attacks, which would have had major implications, were aimed (but NOT successfully executed) at government buildings and the Abqaiq Oil Complex, the world's largest oil processing facility, located in Saudi Arabia.
Needless to say, all of this makes me wonder about the future security of our country. How will Barack Hussein Obama stand when it comes to protecting America from these very real threats? By reducing military/security spending? Or maybe by being BFFs with Yasser Arafat, The Palestinian Liberation Organization's "master terrorst?" Or how about moving within the same liberal-progressive circles as/ launching his political "coming out" party from the basement of unrepentant extremist William Ayers (who, by the way, dedicated his 1974 book aka "the forgotten communist manifesto" to Sirhan Sirhan, the man who assasinated Robert F. Kennedy)? This is not intended to be a political pitch, but it begs some serious thought. Anyway, I'm going to end this now. Where were we? Oh yes, Saudi Arabia...
Just one more thing... since I'm on such a raging political tangent... I found a quality quote today:
The Brits Have a Way With Words 'You have to pinch yourself - a Marxist radical who all his life has been mentored by, sat at the feet of, worshiped with, befriended, endorsed the philosophy of, funded and been in turn funded, politically promoted and supported by a nexus comprising black power anti-white racists, Jew-haters, revolutionary Marxists, unrepentant former terrorists and Chicago mobsters, is on the verge of becoming President of the United States. And apparently it's considered impolite to say so.'
I appoligize for the beligerant length of this post, but I really do feel that it's within the parameters of "current events" and certainly "IR."
