China's Fight in the Arctic

Since the news of the Arctic melting and the abundant amount of natural gas and oil within them, more nations have been trying to grab their hold on such trade and material valuables. Unlike the United States, Europe, and Russia having a foothold within this territory China has none and as a result want in as well in the Arctic Council. Numerous Chinese diplomats have made their way to areas such as Denmark and Iceland in hopes of gaining favor from the arctic nations. China has even been investing in creating mining industries to take a hold in the Arctic. Many western nations, including the US, are against China being able to hold some territory and trade but does not believe they will only use these trade routes for easier shipping and research but instead just trying to take the natural resources. The US feels that China could gain support through the use of their money to have lower income countries such as Greenland and Iceland vote in China's favor. Regardless of the Arctic Nations supporting China's plans, western countries stay weary, even refusing to make a quote on how they will vote in this subject and have even set up military defenses just in case China tries anything.
