Six Chinese vessels have entered into Japanese-controlled waters this week in the East China Sea. This occurred near the Senkaku Islands which have been the focus of recurring tension between the two sides. Therefore, the coast guard issued a warning for them to leave but the Chinese government announced that 'it was dispatching vessels to protest Japan's purchase of the uninhabited chain.' The waters are said to contain rich fishing grounds and potential oil reserves. Japan announced a $26 million deal to nationalize the disputed islands. As a result, hundreds of protestors gathered in Beijing and Shanghai to show their disapproval of Japan's attempt to do so. Unfortunately, this could affect trade between the two sides as China is known to be Japan's largest trading partner.
