Pope Benedict the XVI's trip to Lebanon is not just for worship but an appeal for peace. This is the first time the papal figure has been in Lebanon since 1997 when Pope John Paul II visited for a mass. During a service in Beirut, Pope Benedict pleaded with the Christians to make peace with their Middle East Brothers. He appealed with the younger crowd and asked them to make their place in society. He asked that everyone should have a "fundamental right" to religion and to not be afraid to show their faith. The number of Christians in the Middle East has plummeted because of economic and political pressures.
