The Jordanian ambassador to Libya Fawaz al-Aytan and members of his security were kidnapped in Tripoli, Libya on Tuesday. It's reported that a group of masked gunmen ambushed al-Aytans convoy and took him and members of his security away from the scene. Both Libyan and Jordanian foreign and prime ministers have discussed the issue with each other. Initial predictions assume that the kidnapping was a calculated operation to have leverage in order to get a Libyan individual being held in a Jordan jail freed. Royal Jordanian, the national airline of Jordan, has cancelled it's flights to Tripoli as a result of the kidnapping. Life for political officials has been rough for Jordan and Libya, as Libya's Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni had to recently step down after his convoy came under attack in Tripoli as well. Furthermore Egyptian, South Korean, and Tunisian officials have also been captured and subsequently released in Tripoli in the past.
