Pro-Russian Gunmen Take Over Eastern Ukrainian City’s Police Headquarters

Things in Ukraine look to be escalating as multiple sources are reporting violence in small towns in the east of the country on Saturday. Pro-Russian forces ave reportedly occupied a police headquarters in a small city and have attacked government buildings in towns nearby. A few dozen men were involved in the attacks, which noted as carrying modern weapons and wearing the same uniforms as those who invaded Crimea. Secretary of State John Kerry has expressed strong concern with Ukraine noting that the attacks were organized and that if Russia does not de-escalate their involvement in eastern Ukraine, there would be consequences. Vice President Biden will be traveling to Kiev this month to meet with Ukraine government officials to show continued US support of a sovereign Ukraine state.

To many in Ukraine, the violence look very similar to the beginning of the Crimea takeover by Russia. A major problem with eastern Ukraine is that many that live near the border have many ties to Russia, including language and business interests. Many support separatism in eastern Ukraine.

It will be interesting to see what takes place as the conflict in Ukraine progresses. For the full article, follow the link below.
