The supreme court in the Philippines has approved a birth control law to help the poor who cannot afford it and lower the rates of maternal mortality. After years of pressure to defy the bill from the Catholic church, The president finally passed it with excitement. All of the contraceptives will be free an widely available in clinics as well as medical care. Considering that 80% of the Philippines citizens are Catholic, the church has a very strong influence; however they have an extremely high birth rate which is why the law was needed to be put in place allowing the country to continue to progress.
