This last Wednesday, North Korea's Parliament met to re-elect Kim Jong Un to the top military leadership position. North Korea's parliamentary group, the Supreme People's Assembly, is more of a bureaucratic precaution, rather then an actual democratic act, it seems. While North Korean's vote for those on the Supreme People's Assembly, none of the candidates ran against any opposition. The group meets once a year and, according to one academic source, has never voted against a bill proposed by the government. The group cheered a loud hurrah when it was announced Kim Jong Un would retake office. The article outlines that this happiness might be encouraged by the examples of others who tried to stand against Kim Jong Un's wishes. This includes Kim Jong Un's uncle being put to death for treason. North Korea continues to stand by its Supreme Leader.
