Reports of poison gas attack in Syria so far 'unsubstantiated', Powers says

Online videos depicting villagers in a rural Syrian town north of Damascus suffering from poisonous gas attacks are being investigated by the United Nations' U.S. ambassador Samantha Power. So far the reports of the poisonous attacks are unsubstantiated, but Powers reports they are doing everything they can to establish what happened and will take the appropriate steps once they have confirmed what went on.

Syria recently agreed to a negotiated diplomatic settlement that aimed at eliminating their chemical warfare weapons. More than half of the weapons in Syria have been removed so far due to the settlement, however news of the gas attacks may have the United States rethinking the agreement. Obama has been under fire for his dealings with Syria and their usage of chemical warfare. Rhetoric from those who criticized Obama's treaty with Syria will definitely enhance in the next couple days.

Both sides of the ongoing civil war in Syria are blaming one another for the alleged attack.
