Today, India has ratified the Paris Climate Agreement, meaning that India has committed to making sure that 40% of its electricity will be powered by non-fossil fuels by 2030. However, this deal can only be forced legally if it is ratified by 55 countries and the countries should altogether produce at least 55% of global carbon emissions at the time of ratification. Other countries to join the Paris Climate agreement include China and the USA, which are responsible for 40% of the world's carbon emissions. It is expected for the European Union to follow as well, which can take the total carbon emissions over the 55% threshold.
