Putin rushes to take action before next president is elected

Now that Obama is preparing to exit office, his ability to assert strong, long-lasting policy is waning. According to this article, Putin is attempting to take advantage of this time period before the next president is elected in order to deepen Russia's influence in Syria. Putin's goal is to help Syria take Aleppo so that Russia can have more of a say in how Syria turns out in the future. Putin wants to accomplish all of this before the next president is elected to that the new president will be forced into a tough position of having to deal with a very powerful Syria backed by Russia. The article contemplate how if Hilary were elected into office, she may be more forceful in her approach with Syria as opposed to Obama's more weary strategy. Either way, the next president will have quite an issue to handle coming into office.
